Electrical engineering is about the study, design and application of equipment, devices and systems which use electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism. It is the second most popular engineering major and deals with electronics. Electrical engineers work in transport networks, lighting, heating, ventilation, lift systems, power generation and distribution, renewable energy, manufacturing and construction. Possible employers range from the Navy, Tesla, or NASA. Below is a list of common professions chosen by those who attain an electrical engineering degree.

1. Naval Engineer

Naval, or marine engineers design, build, and maintain all kinds of ships such as aircraft carriers, tankers, submarines, and sailboats. They may also work directly on the ships. They mostly work with internal systems of a ship, which includes steering and propulsion.

2. Engineer in energy and power sector

Energy engineers extract and convert resources into energy. In new energy engineering, there is a focus in the improvement and development of green technologies. As it is a fairly broad field, they deal with energy efficiency, energy services, facility management, plant engineering, environmental compliance, sustainable energy and renewable energy technologies.

3. Automotive engineer

Automotive engineers are involved in the design, manufacture, distribution, marketing, sales and after-sales care of cars, motorbikes, and other commercial vehicles. It is necessary to have a basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, electronic, software, and safety engineering

4. Aerospace engineer

Aerospace engineers deal with the design, construction and maintenance of aircraft, spacecraft, missiles and weapons systems. Aerospace engineers may have a choice between the research and development, testing or maintenance side of the profession. Engineers can work on flight safety, environmental impact, or even investigate plane crashes. Aeronautical engineering and astronautical engineering are branches of this profession.

5. Petroleum engineer

Petroleum engineers design and develop methods for extracting oil and gas from deposits below the Earth’s surface.Petroleum engineers also find new ways to extract oil and gas from older wells

6. Safety engineer

Health and safety engineers inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards.

7. Computer hardware engineer

Computer hardware engineers research, design, develop, and test computer systems and components such as processors, circuit boards, memory devices, networks, and routers.
