Biomedical engineering is the application of engineering principles and design concepts to medicine and biology for healthcare purposes. As scientific improvements advance, the field of biomedical engineering is growing rapidly. Possible employers can be clinics or independent research companies. Below is a list of common professions chosen by those who attain a biomedical engineering degree.

1. Biomaterial engineer

Biomaterial engineers apply their knowledge of engineering and biology to design, develop and test health systems and products. Products like pacemakers and artificial joints are all made by biomaterial engineers. A working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and chemical engineering is necessary.

2. Manufacturing engineer

Manufacturing engineers focus on improving the production of an item. A working knowledge of mechanical, chemical, electrical, and industrial engineering is needed for this job.

3. Independent consultant

Independent consultants have clients that they work to enhance aspects that are already working. Independent consultants may work for many different companies and complete projects for them for short periods of time.

4. Doctor

Doctors help sick or injured patients. Using biomedical engineering, they can help with attaching artificial limbs or work on creating computer programs for various medical applications.

5. Rehabilitation engineer

Rehabilitation engineers design, develop, adapt, test, evaluate, apply, and distribute technological solutions to problems for people with disabilities. Wheelchairs, prosthetics, and artificial skin are all examples of rehabilitation engineering.

6. Medical technologist

Medical technologists is a healthcare professional that tests and analyzes blood, other body fluids, and tissue samples. They also operate and maintain equipment that are used to analyze samples.

7. Biomedical research engineer

Biomedical research engineers are responsible for researching and evaluating possible methods to provide technological solutions to medical problems. They work in laboratories and offices and analyze processes and conduct experiments to provide solutions to the benefit of people.
